Southern Florida
February 20 - March 1, 2009

We scored on all three kites: Snail Kite, White-tailed Kite and Swallow-tailed Kite. We enjoyed 23 species of shorebirds. We watched Black Skimmer feeding off Flamigo Point. And while getting great looks at Barn Owl, we even managed to get better looks at a Bobcat. And as usual, a wonderful group of birders made the 2009 trip to Florida a great winter birding getaway.

During this outing we made a grand loop around Florida's southern pennisula. From Ft. Lauderdale (where we got close to Limpkins and many other waders) to Everglades National Park (where we gawked at kites) to our walk among shorebirds at Tigertail Beach on the gulf coast's Marco Island to a delightful morning at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and onward to our finale at the famed Stormwater Treatment Area 5 (where we were blown away by the avian abundance and diversity).

Below is the trip list (155 species).
