Spring Migration on the Upper Texas Coast
Two Trips:
April 15-21, 2010
April 23-29, 2010

Waves of migrating songbirds and thousands of wading birds make the upper Texas coast arguably the most satisfying April birding experience on the continent. Bryan's scouting trip for this outing in 2009 offered him some of the most memorable encounters he can recall in three decades of watching birds. Now he wants to share it in 2010.

If you want warblers, tanagers, buntings and orioles pouring from the skies, if you want thousands of American Avocets and thousands more other shorebirds, this is your trip. It is unadulterated enjoyable birding -- a short, affordable outing with maxmum rewards.

Target birds along the coast and at inland wetlands include (among many others): Neotropic Cormorant, American Avocet, White Pelican, American Oystercatcher; Red Knot, Whimbrel, Long-billed Curlew, Marbled Godwit, seven tern species, Black Skimmer, Yellow Rail and other rails, Seaside Sparrow and Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow. We'll also get amazing looks at Roseate Spoonbills on their nests.

On land we'll be enjoying Cerulean Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Swainson's Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, and Prothonotary Warbler (among many other species), Scarlet and Summer tanagers, Baltimore and Orchard orioles, Indigo and Painted buntings. We'll also begin the outing with a stop for the rare Red-cockaded Woodpecker.

For a sense of this trip, check out Bryan's field notes from only two days scouting in 2009.

Group Size: This outing is limited to 10 participants. (Note that Vermont Bird tours now limits our group sizes to 10 birders, which provides a great small-group experience for everyone.)

Price:$1385 for single occupancy and $1265 for double occupancy, including six nights lodging, breakfasts, all entrance fees, all the birds and many other goodies. Your air fare and ground transportation are not included. Anyone who has already attended an overnight outing with Bryan gets a 10% discount.

Transportation: This outing convenes in and departs from Houston, Texas. Vermont Bird Tours will provide one six-passenger van whose cost will be shared equally by its passengers. We recognize that some of you prefer not to attend birding trips in vans. We've got you covered: Clients who wish to drive can carpool in their own rental vehicles. Bryan will help organize that.

Other Destination Outings:
